the DREAMS TREAT pt3

an introduction, where it all started and the previous chapters

the DREAMS TREAT pt. 1

the DREAMS TREAT pt 2

I just woke up from a weird sleep. Had a dream that my hands were broken and all my fingers were black, blue and bloody.  All the while the cows were dancing and singing

"Wake up at the crack of dawn,
your hands as cold as ice.
Grab my teats again you fuck,
I won't be near as nice.
Crushed your hands and gored your wife,
that's the going price.
To teach you healthy manners,
I think that should suffice."

Needless to say, I'm not thirsty for milk anymore...or ever again.

the DREAMS TREAT pt 2

the DREAMS TREAT pt. 1

I just woke up from a weird sleep. Had a dream that my mouth was sewn shut and all my words turned into flies with shit on their feet. All the while the rats were dancing and singing

"Just watch him toil and struggle
he can not break loose.
Tongue cut out, no good at all,
the screams it will reduce.
Soon he do the jerky dance,
his tongue we'll use as noose.
Then we all head home again,
and drink his eyeball juice."

Needless to say I'm really scared of rats now....

the DREAMS TREAT pt 1

A while ago, I had this idea to do a bunch of short slightly twisted poems. I wanted them to be fairly similar, where you can read each individually and be tickled, or all together and have this weird mosaic style mental image of a world with talking animals who are in revolt.

In my notebook, I have it listed as "Disney/Dr Seuss and Warren Ellis writing them."

Well, I never got past the first poem, because it never flowed right (the original can be found here...www.coacearchive.blogspot.com/2008/04/dreams.html).

But I  kept writing down a bunch of notes "just in case."

Today for some reason I looked at the original poem, and I was still unhappy with it.

I looked at my notes...and one line really popped. I went back to original added the line, took out another, switched a couple of them around, reworded it a little bit...and voila it finally felt and sounded right.

With that first hurdle (which has been bugging me for almost 2 years) finally jumped, now I need to find an artist, who can put their unique twist on these words and bring it to visual life...but that part of this project will take longer then the writing process.

Well ladies and gents, here is the first glimpse into "the Dreams Treat" world...

I just woke up from a weird sleep. Had a dream that my skull was split open and all my ideas were falling out and bursting into flame. All the while the cats were dancing and singing

"You fell to fast, you fell too hard
now you quiver in the square.
With your neck you hold the rope,
while swinging in the air.
Look at all his dummy thoughts,
they fall into despair,
Look at all the hangman's kids,
without a doubt or care."

Needless to say I am wary around the felines now....

MOVIE REVIEWS 10

You know what has always bugged me?  Movie reviews that take a "I'm so much smarter than you" route.  Every movie review I have ever read takes this approach.  They sit there and with a fine tooth comb and condemn every aspect of the movie or they praise the intellectual aspects of this cinematic experience.

Me, I just want a simple review.  Did the movie achieve it's goal.  How was the acting?  Was the script/story any good.  Was the movie entertaining.  Add a positive comment.  Add a negative comment.  Finally make a simple scale and rate that movie accordingly.

It's not asking for much.

Reading a movie review shouldn't have to be a chore.

So let's make that scale

   1.  Punch me in the FACE, because that's gonna be better than this movie.
   2.  I will never watch the movie again
   3.  Did I actually pay to see this?
   4.  I wish I saw it on cable.
   5.  I'll only watch it if its free on cable.
   6.  Can't find the remote...so I guess I'll watch this
   7.  This is better then the other stuff that's on.
   8.  I will watch the movie again
   9.  I CAN'T WAIT to watch the movie again
 10.  This movie WILL be owned, in any form because it's that damn good!!.

Now let's review some movies...

Dragon Hunters

Strong animation, solid story, great acting, amazing family movie. The only negative is the lack of back story, but even without that it's still enjoyable.

9/10

The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day

Some complaints that I have read..
"bad acting" - The acting in the first wasn't that great either
"serious/funny mix wasn't that good" - It wasn't that good in the first one either.
"cheesy action" - YES BY GOD AND IT'S AWESOME!!

This movie is simply what it is. It is an action movie where the bad guys are the heroes and they go after even worse guys. The protagonists are lovable scamps. The antagonists are cruel and incompetent. It has bumbling fools. It has a solid story. It's paced very well. The action sequences were (as the kids say) "off the hook!"

10/10 but if your not into violent shoot 'em ups, then this movie is not for you..

The Wolfman

Just a good ol' fashioned monster movie. Including scenes to make you jump, some to make squirm and a few that made you go "Oh MY GOD!!" It had a good story, with a strong plot that was paced very well. The actors all played their parts very well. Did I mention that was a Good ol' fashioned monster movie?

8/10

Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths

What a fun super hero cartoon, with strong animation, good voice acting and a solid story. From beginning to end the action is almost non-stop. If you're a fan of the DC Universe you'll get a big kick out of this.

ABLAZE

The smoke unfurls before my very eyes

burning them and leaving behind

the tears it can not cry.

The wispy child, a lovely ghost,

a child of the beast,

that exists to devour.

Like a scorned lover racing

towards the heavens

where it fades into nothingness.

The dancing flame with scalding tendrils

reaching after it

only pushes it further away.

It's offspring it can no longer hold.

Alone and dying the flame roars

and snaps at it's terrible loss.

Embers float like burning snow,

The fire can only do what it knows,

it burns.

It burns until there is nothing left but ash.

It consumes itself in it's never ending need

to gorge, char and to burn.

Finally the flickering starts to fade,

and the glowing embers dissipate,

The escaping children,

dance a lonely dance,

to a melody unheard.

begin to fade from life.

Soon only the ashes remain...

to be blown away

by the passing wind.

BEING THERE

My heart I shared with you,
I opened my world to you, and
you started the healing.
When I started to lose faith and
when I needed you most,
you were right there.
You saved my soul, time and time again.
The way you listened.
Thew way you looked at me when you listened.
I felt a sense of peace
just being near you.
The way my emotions and anger
flared, uncontrollable,
like cannon being fired
destroying, everything in its path.
Yet you stood there, listening.
Strong, understanding and unfaltering
you lent me your strength.
I didn't have your courage
but your strength inspired everyone around you.
You never wavered, never yielded.
You were unbending and unbreakable.
I shared my hopes and dreams,
my pain and disappointments,
my scars and fears,
and you didn't judge me.
You just spread your wings
and sheltered me a little longer.
Until I was able to stand on my own again.
My heart I shared with you,
I opened my world to you, and
you started the healing.
My life would be empty and sad without you
Thank you for spending time
in my life and
in my world.

Thank you for being there.

It's just too bad,
that I wasn't there for you.

And not being there, for you...
took you somewhere else
far away from me.

GRAVEYARD OF EMPTY BOTTLES

I sit here on the ground

In a graveyard of empty bottles.

Smoking a cigarette

And shedding a liar's tear.

In my state of mind

It doesn't matter all that much.

I can hear the demons,

and they're playing the blues.

The angels join in on the vocals, of course.

The choir of angels and the devils sound.

This isn't pretty music.

It's not nice music.

It's the kind of noise

That makes you want to SCREAM!

Whatever, I guess it's better than silence.

Damn cigarette smoke

Shit burns my eyes.

I try to stand

But my inebriated legs fight me.

My vision isn't very clear anymore

I thought I had another bottle up here.

Through whiskey saturated eyes,

I notice something.

I'm not in the graveyard anymore.

I'm drowning in the bottle I'm holding.

And I don't know if I want to be saved.

I take a single step and fall face first

back into the graveyard of empty bottles.

As I sit here on the ground

pissing myself I wonder.

Should I be saved or just flushed down the toilet

I mean, that is where shit belongs, right?

THIN DISGUISE

My scars of sanity

are hidden behind

the masks of

reality and insecurity.

A gentle smile

my thin disguise.

This house of cards

I call my home

crashes gracefully

all around me.

Make-up hides

the black eyes

that you

so lovingly gave me.

A gentle smile

my thin disguise.

Ratted out hair

covers the missing clumps

that are entwined

around your fingers

and litter

the kitchen floor.

"Rock-n-roll" clothes,

attitude and swagger

camouflage my limping gait.

A gentle smile

my thin disguise.

Thank God for the Glam.

It hides the crying boy

hidden inside

the broken man.

A gentle smile

my thin disguise.

Your touch is

molding me

into a monster,

blow by blow.

I shouldn't be.

blessed with an

innocent smile,

such a gift

wasted on me.

That gentle smile

my thin disguise.

My body holds

the soul

of the wounded

the angry and

the premature fiend.

A gentle smile

my thin disguise.

The dreamer died

the nightmare born.

The callous hand tires

and the attack

finally ceases.

I'm replacing the thing

you see in that spot

above the bathroom sink.

I never wanted this to be.

A gentle smile

my thin disguise.

I can tell

You're scared to look

You see what lies

ahead for me,

what I will become.

A gentle smile

My thin disguise.

It's apparent and clear

to those

that surround me.

That I am turning

into you.

I've become something

you can't see anymore.

My scars of sanity

are hidden behind

the masks of

reality and insecurity.

A gentle smile

my thin disguise.

And the echo

is afraid to look back at me;

it sees

what has become of me.

When all I see

are the scars

that only I can feel

and the horrors

you have said

aren't at all real.

A gentle smile

my thin disguise.

Memories that never heal,

that never die

mind and spirit

broken and feral.

The beauty fades

and the brute

becomes apparent.

Look past his smile,

that thin disguise

becomes transparent.

My scars of sanity

are hidden behind

the masks of

reality and insecurity.

A gentle smile

my thin disguise.

SCABS

Today, I cried.

I wiped away a tear with the back of my hand.

I hid in my room and I cringe every time a door opens.

I tried to steal a moment, a minute even a second, to escape my own hell.

To have a fraction of serenity, a fragment of blissful ignorance.

I survived to tell you this.

This is my tale.

Today, I smiled.

I even laughed and I didn't look over my shoulder.

I took a chance and walked in the sun and danced with my shadow.

I played hide and seek with a rainbow, but no pot of gold was found.

What I found was a miracle, I found a sliver of happiness.

I survived to tell you this.

This is my tale.

Today, I'm hating.

Scorn from my reflection and the loathing is returned...tenfold.

I find myself crossing a razors edge between abyss and darkness.

My knees bleeding and torn, my hands shredded from crawling.

That happens when your sins become to heavy to stand upright.

I survived to tell you this.

This is my tale.

Today, I remembered nothing and everything else slipped my mind.

I failed to say I love you, again and I neglected to show you everyday.

I was aware enough to continue the argument, but I failed to say I missed you.

I paid attention to my hurt feelings, and I disregarded and blew off yours.

I survived to tell you this.

This is my tale.

Today, I looked at what I have been and what I have become.

It's the first time my eyes aren't blinded and my brain's not poisoned.

My first step begins today, right now, at this exact moment like it does everyday.

Left foot first, inhale, right foot, exhale.  This is everything and enough for now.

I survived to tell you this.

This is my tale.

This is where the next chapter goes.  It won't be a tale of survival.

But a story of a life lived with peace of mind and serenity holding my hand.

Keeping me from gripping a glass of suicide and

To keep me from picking at the scabs on my knees...

OBSERVATIONS OF A 23 MONTH OLD

7:15 A.M.

Wakes up...shares an early morning gift of smiles and a "Hiiiii!"

Diaper change.

Touching nether regions.

Giggle, Giggle, Giggle.

Still giggling.

Nether regions covered up.

Giggling stops.

"Uppie, uppie, uppie." Means pick me up right now.

"Uppie, uppie, uppie." Means put me down right now.

"Jorsh, Jorsh, Jorsh."

Juice? No? Not Juice?

"Jorsh, Jorsh, Jorsh."

Ohhh, Curious George.

"Jorsh, Jorsh, Jorsh."

Yes, Curious George is on.

"Jorsh, Jorsh, Jorsh!"

Running to the fridge, "Jorsh, Jorsh!!"

Oh juice. Juice.

Num num.  Num num.

I know this means it's Cheerios time.

In the mouth buddy.

Not on the floor.

Diaper change, again?

Oh no...that sounded like...EWWWWW!

That smell aint natural.

Touching nether regions.

Giggle, Giggle, Giggle.

Still giggling.

Nether regions covered up.

Giggling stops.

"Uppie, uppie, uppie." Means pick me up right now.

"Uppie, uppie, uppie." Means put me down right now.

7:32 A.M.

The rest of the day was much the same...only faster and more chaotic.

It was like watching a tornado in motion.

At first you're all "Wow!!"

Than that turns to "DAAAAAMN!!"

And at the end of the day you sit there thinking "What the hell just happened!?!?!"

SLOW AND BEAUTIFUL

oh

there's a mirror

i look into the mirror
i see our images
i see you there standing next to me
i see you
oh god...

the way you move
it's so slow and beautiful
it pulls at my soul
just like the moon pulls the tides
it's mesmerizing
pure seduction
beckoning me
it's calling to me
'fulfill your destiny"

the way you dance
steady, slow and beautiful
you moves control me
just like the fates pulling my strings
unlocking the universe
revealing the mysteries
no hidden secrets
"your path revealed"

i'm able to love
i'm able to love you
if you love me
will you love me?
give me a chance

timeless as the winds
i can love you
i can love me
i can love
you may think me mad
a little bit crazy
but look into my eyes
stare into my soul
find the truth
it stands alone

slow and beautiful
like we never were
like we've always been
i wish we were there
it's the was meant to be
You make me feel alive
YOU make me feel beautiful
I LOOK into the mirror
I SEE OUR images
I SEE YOU THERE standing next to me

CAN'T YOU SEE THE LOVE we share
SLOW AND BEAUTIFUL LIKE WE WERE divined
SLOW AND BEAUTIFUL LIKE WE WERE DESTINED
WHY CAN'T YOU SEE, WHY WON'T YOU BELIEVE
WHY AM I THE ONLY ONE TO BELIEVE THIS?

CALM DOWN?!?!

WHERE DID THE MIRROR GO?!

TELL ME WHERE IT WENT!!

IT WAS RIGHT THERE!!

TAKE MY MEDS?

what...

oh...

there's a mirror

i look into the mirror
i see our images
i see you there standing next to me
i see you
oh god...

   9.  I CAN'T WAIT to watch the movie again
 10.  This movie WILL be owned, in any form because it's that damn good!!.

Now let's review some movies...

Tooth Fairy

It's fun, silly and moral; all the elements that have been seen in almost every family comedy made. Dwayne Johnson and Julie Andrews have a great chemistry. It was their interactions that brought out the big laughs in me. This move really is nothing very special, but that never stops it from being entertaining and fun. My only real complaint is that the Rock's character never really gets likable. Other than that, it really is a one time watch, and not that important of a watch either.

6/10

District 9

As the movie starts, I felt kind of cheated. It feels like a B-movie, with the cheap "jokes" and the stereotypical characters. Then at some point; the movie changed. It becomes a a dramatic movie with compelling characters. It was a perfect blend of sci-fi, drama and comedy. The story was a tad generic, but with the believability of the characters and the near perfect storytelling it really drags you in and delivers a great movie. In my humble opinion, we need more movies like this.

10/10

Legion

This is an odd movie to review. It kind of starts right in the middle of the story, and as the story progresses you get all of the information you need to understand the storyline. But it doesn't give you all the answers. It leaves a lot of unanswered questions.

Usually this is annoys but, for me at least, it really works for this film. The acting is a little stiff at times, and the pacing of the movie is very deliberate, but at some points it does feel like it drags a bit. The special effects were amazing. Overall I enjoyed this movie, but I know it will not be everybody's cup of tea.

8/10

Gigantic

This is one of those quirky character drive movies that really doesn't go anywhere or say anything.  Every character is surreal to the point where they seem like genuine people.

It's a romantic comedy, filled with quirks, pops, and crackles.  I know that doesn't make much sense but neither did this movie.  Yet for some strange reason, I loved it.

SONG OF THE WEEK 6

Hello my friends, cohorts and those that aren't either, and welcome to my filler blog.  Between the game last night and some things I had to do...well I didn't write anything...with that said...

Quite a while ago, I heard this song at the end of the TV series "Mercy".

It annoyed the ever loving Bejesus out of me, because I couldn't find anything.  On the plus side I left a little post-it reminding me to look for it in a couple of days.  I think it's been almost 3 months (although I may be wrong.  That particular little trait I am well known for) but I finally got around to looking for that song.

This time when I went searching for it, guess what my friends and cohorts...I found it!!!

YAY ME!!!

Here's the song by...Aras - Save Me

CASCADING LIFETIMES

The snow, it falls like a gentle whisper
                                                   from the edges of reality
Twisting and shouting to a deaf symphony.
Crying and unfeeling to a zephyr of rainbows and dreamscapes.
All this happens in the blink of an eye
                                                  that lasts a lifetime.

The rain falls like a thief in the night
from the strongholds of heaven and pain.
Whining and defying a silent hurricane.
A cacophony of love and deceit in a canyon of black clouds and nightmares.
All this happens in the blink of an eye

                                                  that lasts a lifetime.

A tear falls like a phantom with no name
from the ever expanding depths of insanity.
From the crumbling chasm of hope,
To the dawn of desperation and despair.
All this happens in the blink of an eye

                                                  that lasts a lifetime.

Life falls like thunder crashing through clouds
and the heavens just inches from the ground.
The screams from a leaf that tumbles from the concrete jungle.
Skating the currents of the dreamlands.
All this happens in the blink of an eye

                                                  that lasts a lifetime.

Cascading through you, into me
Cascading through me, into you
Cascading...
All this happens in the blink of an eye

                                                  that lasts a lifetime.

The Spy Next Door

Being a fan of Jackie Chan's movies I knew this wasn't going to be one of his best. It's a story that's been done a few times over, some were better and some were worse.

This movie can either be called a fun action movie for the whole family, or Jackie Chan lite. Although the action sequences were done well, they were all the same stunts he has done before. The "wow" factor just wasn't there.

If I take this is just an family movie, then, yes, it lots of fun with just enough silliness to make it worthwhile. But it's a Jackie Chan movie so I expected a lot more, and this movie just didn't deliver.

The acting was good, the story was OK, the pacing was spotty, the plot was basic, the action sequences were average and although I was let down, this movie would be a great introduction to Jackie Chan's style of martial arts and movies.  Considering the opening credits include may of his previous films.

6/10

The Princess And The Frog

This is in every sense a typical Disney cartoon. It follows the same formula as Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast and the Little Mermaid. I know that sounds a little snarky, but I say this with absolute joy. Welcome back Disney 2-D animation, you have been away far too long. If you like Disney cartoons you'll like this movie.

This movie also has two of the best emotional moments I have ever seen.

10/10 (I admit outright that this rating is a little skewed, but I have always loved the Disney cartoons)

I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell

The first 75% of this movie is quite irreverently funny. From the first offensive comment to the last even more offensive statements, I was in stitches. What I wasn't expecting was character development and character growth.

At first glance this movie is very similar to 'The Hangover', but it's the last 25% of the movie is where it really takes off.

The story is pretty good, the acting is average, the plot progression was done very well.

9/10

Where The Wild Things Are

As a kid, when this was read to my 2nd grade class, I fell in love with this book. Every time it was my turn to pick out the book for story time I would choose this one. It captured my imagination.

I haven't read it nor have I picked it since then.

This is a very dark movie and quite frightening at times. It's also very sad and tragic. There are also some heart warming moments, that will leave you with a warm glow.

All of the characters go through love/hate moments and some characters you never really like.

But what a wonderful fairytale/fantasy. All good movies elicit some kind of emotional reaction, which this movie does in spades. This is not a movie for children. This is a movie for adults. It follows all the rules for a fairy tale and no fairy tale was ever all unicorns and rainbows. Every fairy tale I remember has some truly awful things happen. The big bad wolf eats a grandmother, the wicked stepmother poisons/enslaves/plots to kill the heroine and children kick witches into ovens. This movie is no different. This movie also has the ending that fits a fairytale. It's not a logical ending, but a "happily ever after" ending.

The story is very good, the acting and the special f/x are amazing. The plot flows very well, and even the pacing is spot on.

I'm no longer in 2nd grade and haven't been for a number of years, but this movie captured my imagination again, and for the first time.

TRUE

There's a window I look out.

There's the door I walk through.

There's the locks, I lock.

There's the sidewalk I shoveled.

There's the car I drive.

There's the place I work.

There's the home I return to.

There's the girl I come home to.

There's the son, happy to see me.

There's the room I sleep in.

There's the bed I dream on.

There's the chair I sit in.

There's the TV I watch.

There's the computer I use.

There's the clothes I need to wash.

There's the food I cooked.

There's the drinks I've consumed.

There's the book I write in.

There's the pen I write with.

There's a thousand reasons to stay here.

There's a million things to see.

There's your smile that welcomes me.

There's a reason for everything.

There's the moment you wake up.

And none of this is real.

And none of this is true.

SCARS

In my reflection I see an animal, a beast
Primal, stealthy, hungry
Crawling on its belly, hunting
Haunches taut
Eyes aware
Twitching ears
Claws gripping at the dirt
Ready to pounce
Ready to flee

In my reflection I see an inner child, so lost
Running, laughing, crying
Spinning, staring up at the sky
Still dreaming
Out of breath
Pure Laughter
Arms stretching, hands open
Touching heaven
Feeling nothing

In my reflection I see a bad seed, so rotten
Kicking, punching, screaming
Fighting a world he can't escape
Lip bleeding
Welts growing
Shame spreading
Pain filled shrieks go unheard
No one listened
Not one person.

In my reflection I see a place that never was
There was no safe haven
No gentle arms to keep him safe
No sweet dreams
No kind words
Constant fear
Creaking doors still haunt him
Sleeps to hide
Sleep won't come

In my reflection I see the scars, no one else sees.

THE LAST DRINK

I've given myself reasons
To stay on this suicide track
by
Feeding the anger
Drinking the poison
Satiating the beast

Double barrel loaded
Pointed at my head
and
Both barrels firing when
My whiskey savior comes
Trampling my will

The "I" that began it
The "Me" that ends it
committed
A drunken messiah
Comes to swallow my sins
Then spits it back in my face

Jack Daniels scented breath
Nicotine stained fingers
search
For the glass that sits empty
Loathing its touch
Wallowing in it's false security

A beer swallowing cretin
Drowning in sanity
while
My hell welcomes me
My drink warming my tongue
My mind deceived and believing the lies

There's nowhere to sit to hide the shame
Two shots of bourbon beckon me
unconscious
My eyes will open soon
The the trembling begins
As every drop is filtered out

The hangover welcomes me back
To my unwashed world
always
Life is an afterthought
I exist here
Still dying slowly

I've given myself reasons
To keep on this suicide mission
and
I've given myself reasons
To swallow the last drink
Before it swallows me
